Dropped Your Phone in Water? Do These 5 Things Immediately

Act fast. Water damage is time-sensitive — the wrong move in the first few minutes can be the difference between saving your phone and writing it off. Here's exactly what to do.

1. Get it out of the water immediately

Every second counts. Remove the phone from water as fast as possible — the longer it's submerged, the deeper the water penetrates the internal components.

2. Power it off immediately

Do not try to test if it still works. Power off the device straight away. Electrical current flowing through wet components causes short circuits and permanent damage.

3. Do NOT put it in rice

The rice myth is just that — a myth. Rice does not absorb moisture effectively from inside a sealed device. What it can do is introduce rice starch into ports. Use silica gel packets if you have them, or simply leave the phone in a dry, warm area.

4. Remove SIM, case, and any covers

Remove the SIM tray, phone case, and any covers to allow air circulation. Pat the exterior dry with a lint-free cloth.

5. Bring it to a repair specialist within 24 hours

Water damage worsens over time as minerals in the water cause corrosion. Our technicians use ultrasonic cleaning to remove moisture and corrosion from the logic board — dramatically increasing the chance of a full recovery. The sooner you come in, the better.

No fix, no fee — we only charge if we can save your device.
