1. Your battery drains unusually fast
If your phone is dropping from 100% to 20% within a few hours of normal use, your battery capacity has likely degraded significantly. All lithium-ion batteries degrade over time — typically after 500–800 charge cycles.
2. Your phone shuts down unexpectedly
Sudden shutdowns at 30%, 40%, or even 60% battery are a classic sign of a failing battery. The battery can no longer sustain the power demands of the device, causing it to cut out.
3. Your phone gets hot during charging
Some warmth during charging is normal, but if your phone gets uncomfortably hot, the battery may be struggling and could even be a safety risk. Have it inspected promptly.
4. The battery health percentage is below 80%
On iPhone, go to Settings → Battery → Battery Health. If it's below 80%, Apple recommends a replacement. Android users can use apps like AccuBattery to check cycle count and health.
5. Your phone swells or bulges
A swollen battery is a serious warning sign. Stop using the device immediately and bring it to a repair centre. A swollen battery can damage internal components and, in rare cases, pose a fire risk.
